Noticed the water level in the Utricularia been dropping quite fast a couple of days before. Until today, I found out bees were stealing from it! I don't mind what they are doing, must be very thirsty. Probably the weather is pretty hot lately...

Bark Mantis (Amorphoscelis sp.) : Bonus shot, I happened to pick this one up at the entrance of my office, it was upside down but it cling onto me as I picked it up, its now my pet!

It was the time where the winged termintes are all over the place. They are attracted to the grow lights and were trapped as they hit the dewy byblis and other plants like sundews.
I had another video later which has more termites on the plant - I didn't use that because it was in "portrait" angle. Not good for video sharing.

There was a jumping spider (salticidae) hanging around the lid of the pitcher when I saw it. It's been in and out around the opening catching ants, like a buffet treat. The spider was careful and didn't fall. It has secure it's web on the peristome before going inside to do it's killing....

So... I was about to retire for the night and taking 1 last look over the plants when I saw something struggling on those dewy leaves of the adelae. I think it's a fungus gnat.

Ever since I gotten nepenthes and seen pitcher forming. I am very curious how they grow. I've decided to make a time lapse video project on one of the N. Rafflesiana. After a week or more. I've capture the footage of 1 and been working on the video. Well it's done now.

There was this Lynx spider lurking among the plants, I was lucky to see it caught a fungus gnat fly, I think the fly trip on one of the web string and I saw the Lynx spider flash our of it's spot lightning fast and back again with the fly in it's fangs, boy that was some show! I quickly took my smart phone and file what happen later...

As I was saying, I'll try a time lapse on the Drosera Tokaiensis, but I've already missed the first bloom, since there were still plenty of flower buds in a stalk. So I've thought, why not attempt it anyway.
Here's the video in youtube and vimeo. It wasn't nicely done up but i think it's watchable. Approximately 2000 photos were used in the making. I didn't expect how the Drosera Tokaiensis would bloom like this. But i didn't capture all the flowers to see them all. Hope you'll enjoy watching .

House chores always rewards me with treats for my plants, so the last batch were fed, here's the new batch.
The middle one is a long leg spider! I'm very sure its a female and it's either an adult or ready to build its egg sac. Anyway call me cruel or what. I won't let it put the sac in my house. So she goes to a mature trap in my big vft. :twisted:
If you remember about a week ago, I bought a typical VFT, what seems like Dantate from World Farm Nursery. I re-potted the plant in to 2 pot and 1 of them seems like it wasn't growing and turning black, thinking not to let it grow fungus/mold. I remove the dead traps but after a few easily attempts, the entire top came off easily. What seems to be was the bottom was rotting away and I thought I saw something moving, and I saw more! I suspect they were fungus gant.
Here's a photo of what it looks like before re-potting and the rotting soil video.
I have set my camera to automatically capturingphotos of "Fittest" for a couple of weeks. In total 81 days but there is about 10 days missing after I potted it from water to LFS.
The last video I've uploaded was in the first part of the video, it ends at 1m05s and the new part start from there onwards. The "visitor" appears frequently from 6m onwards and mostly seen from 6m20s for about 20s.
The video is about 7m24s long and it's abit too lengthy, but overall you can observe the growth of a VFT seedling from germination till 2nd trap starts to develop. I cannot control every picture's lighting so there are flickers all the time due to day and night photographing, it affects the camera's sensor.

Made "Fittest" into a time lapse video, focus point has been moving around due to water evaporating and refilling, seed growth etc. Hope you'll enjoy it.
